Preparing a Mobile Generation for License Portability: PT Compact
Purpose: The purpose of this session is to inform the administrators, academicians, and clinicians about PT Compact, key elements of licensure portability through PT Compact, and its future impact on developing a diverse and culturally competent physical therapy workforce.
Methods and/or Description of Project: This session will provide the experiences of physical therapy faculty educating students about the PT Compact and the benefits/risks that come with license portability. The session will include a discussion on how the PT Compact may impact the future of physical therapy in terms of developing a diverse and culturally competent physical therapy workforce, mobility, and digital practice. This session will provide educators with a brief history of the PT Compact, the latest updates on the growth of the Compact, and the requirements and process to obtain compact privileges. The session will also share legislative efforts to enact the PT Compact in non-member states and potential obstacles to implementation.
Results/Outcomes: The session includes panel presentation and discussion about PT Compact, key elements of licensure portability through PT Compact, and its future impact on developing a diverse and culturally competent physical therapy workforce
Conclusions/Relevance to the conference theme: The session supports the conference subtheme of ‘Navigating Workforce Needs for Society’. In order to meet the needs of a diverse society, more health care professions are moving towards licensure portability in the hope of developing a diverse and culturally competent workforce. This session will discuss the current and future impact of licensure portability in the field of physical therapy.
