PreConference Course: Habit Formation: Infusing Reflection from Entry Level Through Residency

Wednesday, February 15, 2017 | 8am-5:00pm

Register Here | Full Details

For expert clinicians, reflection requires a 'habit of mind.' Habits develop through repetition and over time. It may feel easy to prompt reflection in courses on professional issues, clinical internships, and community service, but is that enough for learners to develop a habit? To become a habit, it truly must be infused throughout the life of students and residents. The key is to embed effective reflective prompts throughout the curriculum in all courses and all activities. In this workshop, the speakers will explore the principles of reflection, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. Participants will walk away with a workbook of tools, strategies, and activities that can be adapted to facilitate reflection, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning in learners from entry level through residency and practice.

PreConference Course: From Mission to Outcome: Designing and Improving Assessment for Education Programs

Wednesday, February 15, 2017 | 8am-5:00pm

Register Here | Full Details

This course is intended for PT/PTA faculty and program directors involved in assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs). This includes those who are charged with overseeing SLO assessment in new and developing programs and those looking to improve current practices in program outcomes assessment in existing programs including residency and fellowship programs. The presenters will lead attendees through a multi-step process including: the linking of the specific program's mission statement to clear and measurable student learning outcomes that are also aligned with the mission statements of the host institution; the identification and/or generation of specific assessment measures that are directly aligned with CAPTE accreditation criteria; the creation and use of curriculum maps to guide curriculum evaluation and inform collection of assessment data; strategies to identify or create/develop course embedded assessment for data collection; and culminating with developing plans and strategies for closing the loop through utilizing assessment results to provide evidence driven curriculum enhancements. Attendees will leave with an assessment plan structure for their program and with knowledge, skills, and tools to continue to improve their assessment processes.
