Professional Bio

Dr. Shelene Thomas earned a B.A. in biology from the University of Denver in Colorado, followed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Ed.D. from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, focusing on interdisciplinary leadership. Thomas' research interests focus on interprofessional education (IPE) in undergraduate and graduate education, physical therapy and in medicine. This focus has led to positions on the National Interprofessional Education Consortium (NIPEC), a mentor in the American Interprofessional Healthcare Collaborative (AIHC) and Fellow in the National Academies of Practice (NAP).



As a physical therapist, she has practiced in a variety of settings across the continuum of care, from outpatient orthopedic to skilled nursing facility to home health leading to her current practices setting of rehabilitation. Her heart shines with the elderly population, where she continues to educate and practice in geriatrics as an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Geriatric Certified Specialist. As an expert in healthcare education, she serves as a team lead for on-site review teams for the Commission of Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
