The Physical Therapy Program in the Department of Rehabilitation at East Tennessee State University seeks applicants for a full-time core faculty position. This position is a 12-month clinical or tenure-track appointment. The Physical Therapy program also offers a residency program in orthopaedic physical therapy that is co-sponsored by the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital along with a fellowship program in orthopaedic manual physical therapy in conjunction with local clinical partners.

 The Department of Rehabilitation is housed within the College of Health Sciences (COHS) which includes graduate programs in audiology, occupational therapy, orthotics & prosthetics, nutrition, speech-language pathology, and social work. The college is part of the Academic Health Sciences Center which includes the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Public Health, and the College of Nursing. There is a strong emphasis on interprofessional education and research, within the COHS.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Physical Therapy Program through teaching, scholarship, and service activities in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of ETSU. The preferred start is the Summer semester of 2025.

Required Qualifications 

  • A physical therapy degree with a terminal academic degree (PhD, DSc, EdD, etc.)
  • Candidates who are ABD will also be considered. 
  • Current or eligibility for licensure as a physical therapist in Tennessee.
  • Defined area of scholarship in Rehabilitation is required as demonstrated by previous publications and presentations. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Clinical Specialist certification or other demonstration of expertise in one or more of the following content areas: neurological, cardiopulmonary, or pharmacology. 
  • Prior teaching experience in a physical therapy academic program.
  •  Record of peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations. 
  • Documented history of service within the profession and/or university
