The Department of Physical Therapy Education at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, invites applications from qualified candidates to join our core faculty in an open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full) Professor position. This position is full-time, 12-month, and tenure eligible. Teaching responsibilities will include course development and instruction of didactic courses in content areas related to the applicant’s area of expertise. 

Research activities will include implementation of a rigorous research agenda, dissemination of research findings, and student mentorship. Service activity will be consistent with the mission of Upstate Medical University, the College of Health Professions (CHP), and the Department of Physical Therapy Education.  

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:  

1. New York State Physical Therapy License or eligible  

2. Academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, or DSc required), ABD will also be considered  

3. Contemporary clinical expertise  

The preferred candidate will have clinical and teaching expertise in pediatrics, acute care and/or other specialty area, an established scholarly agenda with extramural research funding (or that is competitive for such funding), a proven track record of excellence in an academic position, and professional leadership experience. Candidates will be considered at a commensurate title/salary, and competitive start-up funding is available.  

The Department of Physical Therapy Education uses innovative education, scholarship, and service to inspire students and clinicians to become physical therapy leaders. We have faculty with excellence in teaching, professional service, scholarship, and clinical practice. University Hospital is a Stroke Center of Excellence, the region's only Level I Trauma Center and provides regional pediatric care through the Golisano Children's Hospital, Clark Burn Center, and Golisano Center for Special Needs.  The Upstate Simulation Center is an ideal environment for teaching or research and comprises approximately 8600 square feet of space and includes 6 acute care rooms with ample debriefing space.
