Title of Research: The Hypothesis Oriented Orthopaedic-Focused Algorithm (HOO-FA): A Delphi Study

Ideal Participant: PT, DPT OCS or SCS

Description:

Dear Professional Physical Therapy Educator/Clinician, We are seeking your participation in this study to advance clinical reasoning skills in entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students. Despite agreement among educators that clinical reasoning (CR) is an essential skill for health care professionals, use of explicit, theory-informed CR strategies and tools are lacking in DPT educational programs. We are a team of faculty researchers from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and The University of the Incarnate Word in Texas who are studying the utility of a recently developed clinical reasoning tool to be used in entry-level DPT Education.

We are using a Delphi study format for this research to refine and narrow down ideas over multiple rounds of feedback on the proposed tool called the Hypothesis Oriented Orthopaedic-Focused Algorithm (HOO-FA). The tool is designed to develop various types of clinical reasoning in orthopaedic physical therapy. You will be asked to evaluate the tool and provide feedback on its utility.

The survey should take 30-45 minutes to complete.

If you would like to participate in future rounds of the Delphi study, you may choose to do so. You may also opt out of future survey rounds if you desire. The second round will occur about 4 weeks after the first round. The third round, if needed, will occur about 4 weeks after the second round.

To participate in this study, you will need to have the following credentials: Be an educator in an Entry-Level, Residency, or Fellowship Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. This includes clinical instructors and adjunct faculty. Have completed advanced training in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (Residency, Fellowship, OCS or SCS Board-Certification [including emeritus], Terminal Degree in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, etc.) Have produced a scholarly product on a topic related to clinical reasoning (Published Paper, Poster or Platform Presentation at Professional Conference, Symposium, etc.)

If you fit these criteria and want to participate, click this link to the consent form and survey.  If you have any questions about the study, you may contact the primary investigator, Evan Petersen at evanjp@bgsu.edu or phone, 419-372-6350. This study has been approved by the Bowling Green State University IRB [#2180427] Thank you for your consideration in participating in this project.
