A Tribute to Outgoing President Dr. Pamela Levangie, PT, DSc, DPT, FAPTA
During her tenure, Dr. Levangie led the Academy through organizational changes that include alignment of bylaws, policies and procedures, improving daily operations and the expansion of support staff. She played a role in the development of the PTA Summit to advance PTA education, oversaw the transition of the Fellowship of Higher Education Leadership to the Academy and represented the Academy’s interests in the physical therapy sphere. Under Dr. Levangie’s leadership, the Academy celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 2021, making it one of the oldest sections of the American Physical Therapy Association.
In addition to serving as the President of the Academy of Education, Dr. Levangie has served as the President of the APTA Academy of Research, an Ex officio member of the Scientific Review Committee of the Foundation for Physical Therapy, member of the editorial board of Physical Therapy, and served on the Board of Directors for the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT).
Dr. Levangie’s teaching appointments include serving as Chair for the Department of Physical Therapy at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Associate Chair of the Physical Therapy Department at Sacred Heart University, and Assistant Profession at Boston University. She holds a Doctor of Science in Epidemiology from the Boston University School of Public Health, a Master of Physical Therapy from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University.
President Dr. Pamela Levangie’s relentless commitment and devotion to the APTA Academy of Education has made a lasting impact in advancing professions in physical therapy education.
