Professional Bio

Dr. Jaime Z. González holds dual board certification in Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy and is a graduate of the APTA Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership. He is pursuing his PhD in Higher Education Administration at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, and served for several years as an Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Clinical Education within the entry-level DPT program at this institution, as well as at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ. A retired military combat veteran serving as a U.S. Army medic and physical therapist for over twenty years, Dr. González possesses extensive experience and expertise operating in a physician extender role and within primary care and direct access settings. He currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor and DCE at the developing DPT program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. He is also the principal at both J. González Consulting, PLLC and Sports Med Physios, PLLC, providing concierge physical therapy, consultative, and expert witness services to private clients and organizations. Dr. González has served in several volunteer positions within all levels of the APTA, including the APTA DEI Committee and two terms as a delegate within the APTA House of Delegates. Servant leadership is the predominant leadership paradigm through which Dr. González exercises his teaching, clinical practice, and day-to-day interactions with others. He derives his philosophy of teaching from the Ignatian model of education and through a constructivist and post-positivist lens. As such, Dr. González firmly believes it is through a focus on our lived experiences and contexts, the practice of perspective-taking, and continual recognition of our interconnectedness and the primacy of human dignity that rehabilitation professionals can best serve our clients and truly strive to be persons for others.
