Professional Bio

Hillary Markel is a passionate, driven physical therapist who has spent the past eight years practicing in pediatric physical therapy. During this time, she focused on translating scientific knowledge into clinical practice, often acting as a knowledge translator for her colleagues. Dr. Markel prioritized her drive for education by becoming an APTA certified clinical instructor, mentoring and instructing physical therapy students, and by maintaining close professional working relationships as an adjunct faculty member and guest lecturer at Walsh University’s physical therapy department. Dr. Markel has presented at both the American Academy of Pediatrics Annual Conference and the Ohio Physical Therapy Association conference on her work with Dr. Antonette Doty on exercise for adults with lifelong disabilities. Dr. Markel received her Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Mount Union (Go Raiders!) and is an alumna of Walsh University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She is currently continuing her educational journey at Youngstown State University, working to earn an Educational Doctorate (EdD) in Educational Leadership. Dr. Markel is passionate about the field of physical therapy education and advocacy and is eager to take on active roles in the APTA Academy of Education and the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) while stepping into her new role of Director of Clinical Education.
