Item/Job/Service Description

Faulkner University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is seeking applicants for a full-time,12-month, tenure track faculty position to begin January 2025. Candidates must have current knowledge and expertise in a specialty area such as orthopedics, sports, geriatrics, acute care, cardiopulmonary or neurology as well as a DPT with advanced certification or a terminal academic degree.

Faculty responsibilities include developing and teaching assigned courses, advising and mentoring students, community and professional service, research and scholarly activity, college and university activities, interprofessional collaboration with other programs, as well as program and curriculum development, implementation and assessment. The mission of the Department of Physical Therapy is to glorify God by educating the whole person to become independent physical therapy practitioners and leaders who are committed to addressing the changing needs of the individual, the profession, and a global society with compassion, integrity and best evidence in order to optimize health and movement.

The department fulfills its mission by creating a collaborative, learner centered Christian environment, fostering innovation, critical thinking and leadership, cultivating mutual respect for all persons and emphasizing self-directed, life-long learning. The DPT program recently achieved initial accreditation from CAPTE and will be admitting their fourth cohort of students this fall. Faulkner University’s College of Health Sciences is housed in a state of the art 85,000 sq ft facility and includes Physical and Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language pathology and Physician Assistant Studies. The Health Science center includes over 5000 square feet of state-of-the-art physical therapy lab space, dedicated PT research space, a simulation center and an in-house pro bono clinic.

Faulkner is a small, Christian University, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of students and the community. Montgomery is a vibrant city with a rich history that is centrally located to cities such as Birmingham, Atlanta and Nashville as well as the beautiful gulf coast beaches.

Qualifications:

• Terminal academic doctorate (PhD, ScD, EdD or DSc) from an accredited institution in a field related to physical therapy strongly preferred; Candidates with an entry level doctoral degree with advanced certification will be considered.

• Demonstrate contemporary expertise in physical therapy in accordance with CAPTE criteria

• Faculty rank, tenure status, and salary will be commensurate with academic qualifications, teaching and research experience, and relevant clinical specialist certifications.

• Must possess a current and valid Alabama Physical Therapist license in good standing or be eligible to obtain Alabama licensure within 90 days of hire.

• A minimum of 3 years of full time clinical experience as a Physical Therapist is required.

• Experience teaching in a graduate level program is preferred, but not required. Application
