New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) in East Greenwich, Rhode Island invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure core faculty positions in the developing hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy PTA-DPT Bridge program. Individuals with expertise across all areas of physical therapist practice areas will be considered as we build our program faculty. Candidates must have current knowledge and expertise in an area of teaching and/or ABPTRFE specialty certification. This innovative PTA to DPT Bridge program is a blend of online and on-campus activities designed to comprehensively and efficiently transition practicing Physical Therapist Assistants to Doctors of Physical Therapy.

Summary of Position and Responsibilities

Qualified applicants will join an experienced health science faculty team. Faculty responsibilities include participation in ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of the curriculum; accreditation process; developing and teaching assigned courses; advising and mentoring of students, research and scholarly activity, and participation on relevant program, university activities, committees, and task forces as well as interprofessional collaboration with NEIT’s other professional programs. Instructional content areas and service roles are determined by candidate expertise and program needs.

Qualifications (required):

• Graduate of an accredited physical therapist education program.

• A clinical doctorate in physical therapy (DPT), or a clinical physical therapy degree (PT or MSPT) and a terminal academic doctoral degree.

• Contemporary expertise as demonstrated through ABPTS board certification, clinical practice or other means.

• Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in Rhode Island with the expectation for ongoing engagement in clinical practice and/or clinical research.

• A minimum of three years of full-time experience in clinical practice required.

• Prior experience teaching in physical therapy education program or students in the clinic.

• Member of the American Physical Therapy Association. • Strong communication, organization, technology, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.

• Knowledge of educational, management, and adult learning theory and principles.

• Record of ongoing scholarship

• Able to work with and support students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

• Evidence of the ability to provide a supportive culture that promotes JEDI, belonging, and anti-racism in the academic and clinical environments.

• Able to travel, as needed.

• Desire to participate and collaborate with an experienced health science faculty team to build an exciting, innovative curriculum designed to support physical therapist assistants on their journey to become highly qualified DPTs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A terminal academic doctoral degree preferred.

• Candidates currently enrolled in a post-professional doctorate program will be considered.

• Special consideration will be given to candidates with an earned terminal doctoral degree (such as PhD, EdD, DHSc, etc.), prior experience in DPT education

• ABSPT preferred.

• Prior teaching experience in the online, hybrid, blended environment(s).

• Experience in DPT education, curriculum development, administration. admissions, assessment, student affairs, and/or faculty development.

• Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

• Record of scholarly productivity preferred.

• Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accreditation experience.

• Experience with teaching utilizing online platforms (e.g., Zoom, TEAMS) learning software (e.g., Kahoot) and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).

Physical Requirements:

• Work requires sitting, standing and walking as part of classroom instruction.

• Must be able to use LMS & instructional technology, including typing and manipulating a mouse/mouse pad

• Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings

• Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure

• Ability to work at a computer for 6-8 hours per day

• Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours and to work some evenings and weekends.

• Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction)

• Ability to lift 10 – 50 lbs.

About the Program:

The mission of NEIT’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Bridge Program is to offer a clinical doctoral degree through an innovative and transformative educational pathway for licensed Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) to become Doctorate trained Physical Therapists. The program bridges their transition to become contemporary Doctors of Physical Therapy, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism to be independent practitioners who optimize movement, improve health, and transform society. Students will build on their existing professional knowledge through an experiential technology infused curriculum of a combination of didactic and clinical experiences to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to be doctors of physical therapy and have opportunities for focused study in areas of clinical interest.

Graduates will emerge as highly skilled Physical Therapists, demonstrating expertise, leadership, professionalism, cultural humility, and critical thinking in their pursuit to deliver exemplary care to patients/clients in diverse physical therapy practice settings. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be clinicians, educators, scholars, and leaders who have developed the knowledge and skills for contemporary, autonomous and collaborative practice, as well as a commitment towards service and lifelong learning.
