Assistant/ Associate/ Professor - Tenure Track Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Department of Physical Therapy College of Health & Human Services Western Michigan University invites applications and nominations for (2) positions of full-time fiscal year, 12-month Tenure Track Assistant Associate Professor(s) in the Department of Physical Therapy. The ideal start date is January 1, 2025, and is flexible. The Department of Physical Therapy and the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program were established and approved in 2015. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at WMU achieved initial accreditation in December 2021 and will seek reaffirmation of accreditation in 2026.
We are seeking highly motivated, energetic, and team-oriented individuals with demonstrated contemporary expertise in at least one of the following: foundational sciences (specifically human anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, motor control, pharmacology, and imaging/diagnostics); acute care; cardiovascular and pulmonary; prosthetics; and/or management of integumentary conditions. This individual will join a DPT faculty of eight (8) in growing and assessing a contemporary, innovative, and student-centered 2.5-year DPT program.
Major Responsibilities:
• Experience working with students and colleagues from diverse communities, backgrounds, identities, learning styles, and abilities
• Teach in areas of expertise and additional assigned content areas
• Supervise and advise students
• Develop and sustain a scholarly research agenda in accordance with contemporary CAPTE standards and WMU institutional expectations
• Provide service to the DPT program, department, university, profession, and community
• Contribute to an interprofessional environment of instruction and community collaborations
• Contribute to curricular and programmatic development and assessment
• Participate in the accreditation process
Minimum Qualifications:
• Earned Physical Therapy (PT) degree from an accredited institution, AND
• Academic credentials to include any of the following: o PT degree AND an academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, EdD, or DHSc), OR o Clinical doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) AND enrollment in academic doctoral degree program (PhD, ScD, EdD, or DHSc), OR o Clinical doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) AND ABPTS certification
• Evidence of physical therapy licensure, and eligibility/intention to obtain Michigan physical therapy licensure with the expectation for ongoing engagement in clinical practice and/or clinical research
• Demonstrated teaching and assessment experience (must be completed by date employment would commence)
• Demonstrated contemporary expertise in one or more of the identified areas of physical therapy
• Demonstrated experience with research and evidence of scholarly products
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to function well within a collegial, collaborative work environment
Desired Qualifications:
• Academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, EdD, or DHSc) (must be completed by date employment would commence)
• Demonstrated expertise AND three years or more experience in graduate level teaching (must be completed by date employment would commence)
• Completion of APTA accredited fellowship or residence
• Completion of ABPTS certification
• Demonstrated experience conducting research with a scholarly agenda that includes:
- History of external grant award/s for scientific research
- Evidence of disseminated products o National and/or international level presentation/s o Peer-reviewed publication/s
- History of mentoring junior faculty in research Experience with CAPTE accreditation process
- Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association
