POSITION.

For this non-tenure track instructional faculty position, we seek an experienced and motivated individual with strong interpersonal communication skills to teach Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) courses, lead and manage our program’s Clinical Experiences, and collaborate with faculty on the instructional track. We seek for the faculty member to begin in Summer/Fall 2024. Interprofessional education, clinical research, and clinical practice opportunities are available. We seek a faculty member with clinical education experience, preferably in an academic setting, but clinical settings will also be considered. The candidate should be highly organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented. Clinical education is a well-resourced component of the curriculum, collaborating with an Assistant Director of Clinical Education, additional faculty to assist with monitoring student progress, an interprofessional departmental fieldwork committee, administrative assistants, University Student Health Services, and the Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience.

Primary Responsibilities of the Director of Clinical Education will include:

Providing vision and leadership for the clinical education component of the DPT program; serving as a liaison between the academic institution and the affiliating clinical facilities; overseeing the preparation, assignment, and supervision of students while on clinical rotations; recruiting and developing clinical affiliation sites as needed; encouraging and assisting clinical site and clinical faculty development; providing oversight during clinical rotations; problem solving with students and sites; coordinating and planning the Clinical Educators Workshops; participating in regional, state, and national clinical education activities and programs; coordinating all clinical education courses and serve as a member of the Department Curriculum Committee; creating strong relationships with clinical partners, executing equitable placement processes; teaching in other DPT Courses as appropriate; modeling inclusive practices in education and professional practice; and engage in advising and student support.

QUALIFICATIONS.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) with a terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, ScD) preferred, with eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice, and a minimum of minimum of two years of clinical practice as an SCCE or CI, or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapy education program. The candidate should demonstrate their knowledge of, and experience with, physical therapy accreditation criteria (CAPTE) related to the clinical education curriculum and state agency regulation.

 Additional preferred qualifications include:

Familiarity with the details of clinical education and practicum site establishment; Specialist certification by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties; and a demonstrated interest in a line of scholarship. The DPT PROGRAM.

The DPT program’s full-time faculty bring to their teaching their experiences from their varied clinical and research backgrounds while emphasizing student learning/development through innovative and evidence-based teaching practices. PT faculty collaborate with faculty in many disciplines and with local institutions including Temple University Hospital System and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Our instructional space is fully equipped with smart classrooms and a state-of-the-art instructional laboratory. The DPT Program supports the North Philadelphia community by offering pro-bono physical therapy services through our interprofessional pro bono clinic and as part of the multi-disciplinary clinic at 1300 Lehigh Street where students and faculty work to meet the needs of uninsured and underinsured members of the community. This practice venue gives many faculty members a venue to maintain their clinical practice and teach at the point of patient care.

THE DEPARTMENT.

The Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS) is unlike any other similar department in the country. Located on a single urban campus in Philadelphia, the department’s faculty provide instruction in 13 degree programs including clinical doctorates in athletic training (post- professional), occupational therapy (entry-level and post-professional), and physical therapy; a doctor of philosophy in neuromotor science; master of science degrees in athletic training, recreational therapy, and neuromotor science; and undergraduate degrees in health professions, health studies, recreational therapy, kinesiology, and exercise and sport science. HRS also works closely with disciplines in other departments including public health, nursing, social work, and communication sciences and disorders. The department is at the forefront of developing innovative academics and research aimed at promoting overall health and well-being; preventing injury and disability; and helping those with illness, injuries, physical, psychological, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities lead full, satisfying, and meaningful lives.

THE COLLEGE.

Devoted to an interprofessional environment for education, research, and practice, the CEPH-accredited College of Public Health consists of academic units in the public health disciplines, health professions, and the School of Social Work, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. The college’s research aims to understand the fundamental factors that affect the health and well-being of individuals and populations by examining health problems through foundational research, policy and practice, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based interventions. We focus on social determinants of health and social justice with strengths in cancer, obesity, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, mobility research, cognition and language, developmental disabilities, organ transplantation and aging. The Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education leads our clinical activities, including forward-looking interprofessional education within the college and throughout the university. The college is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals including Offices of Communications and Marketing, Information Technology, Sponsored Research, and Academic Affairs. Temple’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching provides outstanding programs and one-on-one mentoring to instructors to promote and support excellent teaching.
